A brief personal history
Dan Ward began his study of Martial Arts around 1984, aged 11 under Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu Shihan Dr. Chris Roworth in Sudbury Hill, London England.
After some years under both Dr Chris Roworth and Dai Shihan Peter King’s tutelage, Dan travelled around Europe, Japan, China, Mongolia and Russia training in various Martial Arts along the way whilst continuing his study of Budo Taijutsu and Natural Medicines such as Amatsu Therapy, Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine, qualifying at medical practitioner level in 2000 and 2005 respectively.
In 1999 Dan joined the Metropolitan Police Service where he worked as an Officer Safety Instructor and later moved into The Criminal Intelligence Department, then subsequently The Diplomatic Protection Group. His duties included providing protection for visiting Heads of State including; George W Bush and Ariel Sharon, along with other Ambassadors and Principle Politicians based in Central London. Dan also acted as an advisor for the Metropolitan Police Local Officer Safety Strategy Team and headed the Metropolitan Police Martial Arts Federation (Budo Div.) before his retirement there in 2007.
Dan supplemented his training of Budo Taijutsu by spending a number of years under highly ranked individuals and World Title holders within Mixed Martial Arts and Brazilian Jujutsu, competing at National level on numerous occasions from 2005 to 2009, at one time ranking 5th in the British Mixed Martial Arts Open Championships within his weight category.
Dan gained Godan (5th degree Black Belt) rank in Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu from Hatsumi Soke in 2002, and now currently holds the rank of 10th Dan awarded by Soke on 11th September 2019 upon recommendation from Dai Shian Peter King (UK), Arnaud Cousergue (FR) and Sveneric Bogsäter (SWE).
In 2020 Dan joined the directing staff at POLARM International. A company committed to professional instruction for Police, Military and Public/Private Sector Security Forces internationally, and undertaking live jobs in the world of protection and anti-terrorist activities. www.polarmgroup.com
Dan also holds a Level 3 AET teaching qualification.
Dan now works in the UK as a Physical Therapist, Security Adviser/Instructor and Martial Arts Teacher. He continues as a student of medicine and Budo under Dr Chris Roworth and Mr Peter King and takes pleasure in traveling to meet other like minded Budoka training Budo Taijutsu and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under the talented Coach Ali Mason at Range Academy Gloucester. Dan is currently graded to Purple Belt.
